Sarah Tran

My work in Children’s Ministry began at age 10 helping with the cradle roll Sunday school class at a small Church of Christ in Redwood City, CA. The Sunday school teacher told me we were following the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19 Go and make disciples of all nations, and that all nations included the babies at Church. A few years later I was able to go on mission trips to Mexico with the Church youth group and it was very exciting to follow the Great Commission a little further from home. After high school I attended Columbia Christian College in Portland Oregon where I studied Bible and Missions and then, before graduating, I moved to Cap Haitian, Haiti to join some missionary friends working at an orphanage and a mission school. From there God opened the door for me to teach Bible classes to children and families while working with refugees in Zagreb, Croatia. Back then I really expected to spend the rest of my life bringing the good news of Jesus to remote corners of the world, but instead, God led me back to Redwood City where I worked in the home office of a Christian relief organization, Manna International, and taught Sunday school at the same Church where I had grown up.  I also began working as a nanny as a way to continue my college education. Nannying turned out to be a very different, but very fulfilling sort of mission field and I remained in that field for several years, while completing my undergraduate and graduate degrees.

More than a decade later, I met my husband while I was working in Los Gatos, CA. He has been such an incredible gift from God and blessing in my life. After we married I left the round-the-clock demands of my nanny career and began working in a broader area of Early Childhood Education. I had wonderful experiences at a large corporate child care in silicon valley, the Department of Education in Santa Clara, a parent co-op preschool in Campbell, and a vibrant Christian Inclusion program for children with moderate to significant special needs in Los Gatos. Each one was its own sort of mission field. After my husband retired we moved to Tahoe where I unexpectedly found myself in a Preschool director role. It has been my privilege to serve God here at Tahoe Community Church since the spring of 2015 and to be part of a ministry that has been meeting the spiritual, social, emotional, and early education needs of children in the Lake Tahoe basin for almost forty years. I am blessed to serve with a group of Godly and dedicated Christian teachers and we are all blessed by the many children and families we serve here at Tahoe Douglas Christian Preschool & Childcare. My life verse is Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
