Theology & Biblical Decernment

Who doesn’t love Paul Harvey, the sound of his voice, time travels me back to my childhood. He’s a master story teller, Christian, married 68 years, everyone loves Paul Harvey! We all waited for his famous “Good day!” or “that’s the rest of the story” on his radio show, so this blog over all is very positive about the man known as Paul Harvey. I’m  not judging him as either being a christian or not. As far as I can tell he was a true believer.

Made up stories are fun and for the most part harmless, Paul could tell a story like no one else, but he wasn’t a theologian, a good story masterfully told that didn’t line up with scripture can misrepresent God.

Parables are difficult to write, each character must match perfectly to the intended person or deity we are to learn about.  So without telling you the short comings of this story, listen carefully, pay attention to the positions applied and see if they line up with the biblical positions we find in God’s word.  Listen also for any applications and see if they match scripture. Then post your corrections here, and may-be we’ll call you a theologian.

Isaiah 53 Proclaimed

The Bible Belt could collapse as quick as England did in regards to faith. The southern culture for years has been polite and kind with a Christ as its back drop. So like england was what you were born into. So as Human secularist continue to push their world view that has as of late gotten much more aggressive, more and more young people who have grown up in the Church are rejecting their faith. Is the Church addressing the issue? Are they engaged in equipping their members to defend the faith?
The truth of the matter is, Jesus is not a cultural leader…he’s a King, so many of those who lived a kind of yeah “I’m a christian, I was born in the south” are exchanging the “Christian Culture” for a human secular one.

Islam the Religion of Peace

We need not be fearful or hateful towards Muslims, we must pray, get to know them, Love them, and tell them the truth. The fact of the matter is a friendly postmodern american who rejects Christ for his own set of beliefs is just as deceived as a muslim. Both will end up in Hell if they don’t repent and trust Christ’s act of love he did on the cross. Get Busy church, serve your King.

Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus || Spoken Word

This went huge online…in one day over 2 million views! WOW People are looking for something, times are tough, So seeking they seem to go…but are they being honest with their quest?  Finding vid clips online that give you a quick little insight that builds on how others have got it wrong, may be true, but if it just makes you have a momment superority as you look down on other who have behaved legalisticly….isn’t that feeling exactly what this poem is preaching against?
Overall I like this vid, but I hope it dosn’t simply build a new form of self rightousness that ends up emptying out Churches. So love Jesus…but don’t forget that he loves his bride the church too.
Hebrews 10:23-25
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
2/13/12 this video is now over 7 million….here is a response vid that makes some differant points worth hearing……..

Militant Evangelism “The Barracks”

Welcome to something new at Tahoe Community Church, We are reinventing how we do Church at our 9am Worship. The truth is, we think it’s actually a very old way of doing Church. Some of the apostle Paul’s letters sound like military marching orders. We are in a battle must not be forgot it. So bring your swords, pass the ammo, because for the next few months we’re going to boot camp.

Here’s the goal:  We are going to learn how to set the captives free (The Great Commission)
What’s required:  You must be Saved, you must be Sanctified
Salvation will bring into your life the Holy Spirit, and he will help you to become Sanctified.

2 Timothy 2:3-4
3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.

Our Weapon:   The Word of God
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Our Enemy:  Satan’s Lies

2 Corinthians 10:3-5
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

The battle ground:  Where ever you are…
2 Timothy 4:1-3
1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Glenn Beck…American Revival?

Wow, Talk about twisting concepts, Our post modern culture knows no bounds when it wants to express it’s self. Words have meanings and belong in the context of their origins. When used outside of their place of origin, they could mean something different, or are intended to bring forth a new way of looking at something. So what was Glenn Beck’s intention? We know him to be very patriotic, has his love for America turned into Worship?

The mixing of Mormonism, Patriotism, and Christianity is simply a mess. God has created the world to operate with different sets a authorities. Glenn Beck has very good intentions, but he should not blur the lines of church and state.  We as the Church need to call all believers to true repentance, increase our witness to the lost, and trust in the Lord, the true source of our hope not the Government

A Biblical Look at the Westboro Baptist Church

WBC (Westboro Baptist Church) will be coming to South Lake Tahoe to Protest Lake Tahoe Community College’s presentation of THE LARAMIE PROJECT a docu-drama about the 1998 hate-crime murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student who was brutally beaten by two young men, tied to a fence, and left to die.

As you know, WBC became the most hated family in America by protesting at Military Funerals. This accomplished their goal of using the media to get out their message of Hate.

This is a very challenging issue to discern. In a very black and white way the WBC has more things biblically right than they do wrong. So I want to very carefully divide the true statements from the false ones using scripture as the final judge. I will only deal with their views and actions towards homosexuals in this blog.

What The Bible Says….
Anyone who has heard of the cities of “Sodom and Gommorah” knows that they were notorious hot spots of homosexuality. Gen 19:5-8 “and they called to Lot and said to him, ‘Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them.’ But Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him, and said, ‘Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly.'” The Greek word in the New Testament for homosexuality is literally “a sodomite”. Many are trying to redefine what the term “sodomite” means. (A term that has remained unchanged for 5000 years, even today– “sodomy”) The city was clearly destroyed by God because of homosexuality in the story of Gen 19, even the New Testament clearly states exactly the same thing in Jude 7 “Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.” Any sinner should always remember that the God who commands us to love our neighbor is the same God who will cast any and all unrepentant sinners into the “eternal fire” (hell). Here are more Bible passages that deal with homosexuality, Lev 18:22-23 “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.” Lev 20:13 “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death.” 1 Cor 6:9 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals” 1 Tim 1:9-10 “realizing the fact that (civil) law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers” Rom 1:26-27 “For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”

If the homosexual community chooses to practice homosexuality in privacy, that is their free choice. But let such persons know for certain that the Christian Bible condemns all such practices and God will judge them unfit for the kingdom of heaven if they continue to practice and openly promote homosexual sex.

WBC Twist….
Psalm 5:5 (English Standard Version) The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. This is the passage the WBC loves to twist, YOU (God) hates _______ This is how they justify their hate. WBC Inserts “Fags” instead of “evildoers.” WBC mainly mentions homosexuals, not adulators, thieves, liars, blasphemers, or murders, any of which could be inserted. From God’s view there are a lot more adulterers than homosexuals. This group implies that homosexuals are more evil than other sinners. One could say that the WBC may love homosexuals more than the others because of their effort to warn them of hell. Jonah hated Niveveh so he ran away and didn’t warn them about the wrath of God. Jonah really wanted to see Nineveh’s destruction; he was anticipating their judgment, not their repentance. So the loving thing to do is to warn all sinners that God is just and will punish all who have broken His law. All agree that the way the WBC warns homosexuals is in a very hateful way. The Bible calls us to love… “If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corithians 13:11

The Wrath issue…
From what I’ve heard the WBC teach, it is safe to say that they think homosexuals have been abandon by God, as we see foretold in the book of Romans. If we are living in the time of God’s abandonment, someone could conclude that those sinners will not repent, but that is a judgment not for us to know. We, the Church, are simply under the same orders to proclaim the gospel to the lost. Not to judge that some types of sinners will not repent.

Jesus encountered many self righteous Pharisees. He showed His dislike towards their arrogant holier-than-thou attitude many times in the gospels. I would think it would be fair to say that Jesus would show the same contempt towards WBC. The bible teaches humility, mostly because we have nothing to boast about. We are all sinners in need of being delivered from the wrath of God.

If the WBC followed the Bible, they would go on mission trips, not protesting trips. They would be in contact with the Tahoe churches, and work with the churches. The reason they don’t contact local churches for support is that churches follow the loving example of Christ’s humble sacrifice, not WBC’s hateful, condemning, hopeless message of wrath.

The South Lake Tahoe churches love homosexuals. We want homosexuals to come to the cross for the same reason we, in the church, came to the cross…forgiveness, healing and eternal life. There is a great ministry that has had success in helping homosexuals to repent from their sinful lifestyle. Check out Exodus International.

Love and Justice

I think I liked this…it lacks any Bible references, but it hits the biblical concepts we find in scripture, so its true by definition, but should we present the truth of God so far removed from his word?

Isaiah 55:11
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

So learn the concepts of salvation, but use God’s word to do so.

One final point, at about the 4:14 minute mark, they take poetic liberty and mention a conversation between Jesus and God the father that isn’t in scripture, so if that caught your interest and you looked for it in the bible, and didn’t find it, you could begin to question the whole presentation…..Read your Bibles
